DO YOU NEED PREVIOUS 4WD EXPERIENCE
We do get clients that don’t have the necessary driving experience to undertake such an excursion. We can give you enough advise and tips in order to make your trip feasible. Please have a look at the pdf’s and videos on this tips on safety page. It will give you all the basic information that you will need to make your trip a success.
You will need at least good confident driving skills in order to undertake such an en-devour.
SNOW DRIVING EXPERIENCE
If you have experience driving in snow and ice you should be ok as well. Its more or less the same skills that needs to be applied. Drivers accustomed to snowy conditions have proven themselves time after time to be reliable sand drivers as well (according to my own first hand experience).
DO YOU NEED A HIGH CLEARANCE 4×4 VEHICLE
This is really a important point that a lot of people miss. According to QLD Park Boards it is required to travel only in high clearance vehicles. This is not only for Fraser Island but Moreton Island , Strathbroke and Bribie Islands.
Only high clearance 4WD vehicles are suitable for Fraser Island’s sandy forest tracks and beaches. Drivers of all-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles with low ground clearance may find beach access points and inland tracks impassable.
All our 4×4 vehicles are lifted and are suited for Island travel.
Make sure you are not short changed when getting quotes from other 4wd hire companies (not a lot of them will mention this point).
Our prices start from $149-00 per vehicle depending on the duration, vehicle type and also the time of year. Please contact us to acquire a formal quote. We will match any written quote.

CORRECT TYPE PRESSURE
We will provide you with all the information and tools you will need to ensure your 4X4 vehicle tire pressure is correct for the conditions you are driving in.
Driving on any terrain tire PSI is the most important part when it comes to actually getting anywhere.
If the pressure is too high the vehicle will struggle to move, feel more bumps, wear the clutch and other components. There is really no such thing as too low PSI unless it’s a flat tire or maybe 6 PSI or under.
Driving with 10 PSI will get you through the softest sand you could imagine, but the risk of rolling the tire off the rim is high, one would only really take it down to 10 PSI if it was the only way to get out of a boggy section or situation.
Best tire pressures for your 4×4 Vehicle will be different to the next person’s 4WD, someone that has mud terrain tires will normally require slightly less PSI than All terrain’s or highway tires whilst driving on sand.
The following chart is an approximation recommendation for tire PSI:
- General well used sand tracks: 20-25
- Beach sand and soft sand tracks: 13-18
- Driving on sand dunes: 13-18
- Lime stone: 14-18
- Emergency recovery: 6-10
We will advice you what the correct tyre pressure for your 4wd vehicle will be on delivery of vehicle.
